USS Dane, one of 117 Haskell class attack transports, was built to a modified Victory ship design at Portland, Oregon, and commissioned in October 1945. Completed too late for war service, Dane made three "Magic Carpet" voyages between December 1945 and July 1946, returning servicemen from Okinawa, Guam, Peleliu, Manus, Truk, and Kwajalein to the West Coast. The ship then remained at San Francisco until placed out of commission in December 1946. Retained on the Navy list for the next decade as a mobilization asset, Dane was transferred to the Maritime Administration in September 1958 for further retention and stricken from the Navy list in October. The Maritime Administration sold her for scrapping in March 1975.
