USS Dixie III (SP-701), 1917-1919.
Renamed SP-701 in 1918

USS Dixie III, a 54.1 foot section patrol craft, was built in 1911 by Bowes and Mower of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a civilian motor pleasure boat. Operated by the State of Maine, she was taken over by the Navy for World War I service and placed in commission at the beginning of May 1917. The craft was renamed SP-701 in April 1918 and probably spent her entire Navy career in northern New England waters. She was returned to her owner in May 1919.

This page features the only view we have concerning USS Dixie III (SP-701) and USS SP-701.
