USS Edward J. McKeever Jr., a 136-foot patrol vessel, was built in 1910 at Noank, Connecticut, as the 223 gross ton fishing vessel of the same name. Soon after the United States entered World War I, the Navy purchased her from McKeever Brothers, Inc. of New York City, placing her in commission in May 1917. For the remainder of the conflict Edward J. McKeever Jr. was employed in central Atlantic Coast waters (4th Naval District) for minesweeping, towing and transport service. She was sold in May 1919 to the Wilcox Fertilizer Company of Mystic, Connecticut.
