USS Elfin (SP-965), 1917-1918

USS Elfin, a 50-foot 8-inch patrol boat, was built in 1911 by Britt Brothers as a motor pleasure craft. She was leased by the Navy in July 1917 and placed in commission at that time for World War I service in the waters of the Fourth Naval District. In November 1918, shortly after the Armistice brought the fighting to an end, Elfin was returned to her owner, Alfred W. Gibbs of Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Photographed during World War I.
Built in 1911 by Britt Brothers as a pleasure craft, in 1917 Elfin was owned by Alfred W. Gibbs of Wayne, Pennsylvania. She was leased by the Navy for World War I service and placed in commission on 26 July 1917. Elfin was returned to her owner on 22 November 1918.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
