Olney, and the commander of the Rose, Captain Herbert E. Daub, on board the ship, circa 1960. The class, which had adopted the ship, subsequently displayed and studied the knot board in its classroom.
    On the left of Captain Olney is the school's principal, Harold Barber, and to the right of Captain Daub is the class's teacher, David Benson.

    Junior Licensed Engineer Anthony F. Rieber


    Anthony "Tony" F. Rieber--at age 77--assuming duties as a Junior Licensed Engineer on board USNS General Maurice Rose (T-AP-126) circa mid-1966. He is posing with an engine order telegraph.
    Rieber was one of many who came out of retirement to fill a shortage of licensed personnel in the Military Sea Transportation Service during the Vietnam War buildup. Rieber probably served on the ship's second Pacific deployment, which began in September 1966.
