Previously the civilian harbor tug Katherine K (1894)

USS Katherine K, a 14 gross ton motor harbor tug, was built for civil use at Baltimore, Maryland, in 1894. She was acquired by the Navy at Miami, Florida, and placed in commission in July 1917. Through the First World War Katherine K operated in the vicinity of Key West, Florida, on patrol and tug duties. No longer needed after the conflict, she was sold to a private owner, but was lost in the Key West hurricane of 9-10 September 1919, before she changed hands.

This page features our only views of USS Katherine K (SP-220) and of the civilian tug Katherine K.
