USS K-7, a 392-ton K-1 class submarine built at San Francisco, California, was placed in commission at the beginning of December 1914. Following initial service along the California coast, she deployed to Pearl Harbor in October 1915 and spent the next two years operating in Hawaiian waters. World War I's needs called K-7 away from the Pacific late in 1917, and she operated in the Gulf of Mexico during nearly all of 1918 and the first three months of 1919, returning to the Caribbean area later in 1919 for more active service. From early 1921 the submarine operated along the East Coast, with her activities including training duty at the Naval Academy, among other places. USS K-7 was decommissioned at Hampton Roads, Virginia, in February 1923. Later moved to the Reserve Basin at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, she remained laid up until December 1930, when she was stricken from the Navy list. K-7 was sold for scrap in June 1931.
