USS Lakeview (ID # 2186), 1918-1919.
Previously S.S. War Victor and S.S. Lakeview (American Freighter, 1917).
Name sometimes given as Lake View.

War Victor, a 2003 gross ton (4700 tons displacement) freighter built at Manitowoc, Wisconsin, was completed in November 1917. Soon renamed Lakeview (sometimes written as Lake View), she was taken over by the Navy at New York in January 1918 for use as a mine carrier and commissioned on 23 February 1918 as USS Lakeview (ID # 2186). Between March and May 1918 the ship carried coal and general cargo from Norfolk to Nova Scotia, Bermuda, and Newfoundland. In early June 1918 she departed Norfolk, Virginia, with a cargo of mines and other military supplies which was delivered in late June and early July to bases in Scotland for use on the North Sea Mine Barrage. Between August and October she made a second round trip cargo run from Norfolk to Scottish ports. In January 1919 Lakeview took a load of coal from Norfolk to Brest, France, and in April carried general cargo from New York to Scotland. After returning to New York in July 1919 and subsequently moving south to Norfolk, she was decommissioned there on 30 July 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board. S.S. Lakeview was scrapped in 1926.

This page features all the views we have concerning USS Lakeview (ID # 2186), S.S. War Victor and S.S. Lakeview.
