USS LST-485, 1943-1948

USS LST-485, a 2366-ton LST-1 class tank landing ship built at Richmond, California, was commissioned in May 1943. Initially serving in the southwestern Pacific, she participated in the Vella-Lavella operation in September 1943 and the Treasury Island landings later in the year. In June and July 1944 LST-485 was present for the amphibious assaults on Saipan and Tinian, and in the spring of 1945 she took part in the Okinawa campaign. Following Japan's surrender, the landing ship performed service in Chinese waters and elsewhere in the Far East. She returned to the U.S. West Coast in mid-1946 and was placed out of commission in late July. Stricken from the Navy list in August 1946, LST-485 was sold for scrapping in March 1948.

This page features the only views we have concerning USS LST-485.
