Munaires, a 5095 gross ton freighter, was launched in 1917 at Newport News, Virginia, for the Munson Steamship Line of New York City. When completed in January 1918, she was acquired by the U.S. Navy and placed in commission as USS Munaires (ID # 2197). Assigned to the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, the ship made five round-trip voyages to France during the rest of 1918. Early in 1919 she steamed to South America with a cargo of coal, returning to the U.S. early in April. Soon after that, Munaires was decommissioned and returned to her owners.
This page features all the views we have concerning USS Munaires (ID # 2197), and the civilian freighter Munaires of 1917.
