USS Morristown, a 10,562 ton (displacement) cargo ship, was built in 1918 at Shooters' Island, New York, as the 5139 gross ton freighter of the same name. She was acquired by the Navy in mid-October 1918 and placed in commission at that time. The ship began her initial voyage to France a few weeks before the 11 November 1918 Armistice brought an end to most World War I fighting. During the next half year she made two more trips from the United States to European ports. USS Morristown was decommissioned in mid-June 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board. She was scrapped in 1936.
