USS Machigonne (SP-1043), 1918-1919.
Previously civilian steamship Machigonne (1907)

Machigonne, a 425 gross ton coastal passenger steamship, was built in 1907 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was formerly named Dida and operated in New England waters prior to World War I. The steamer was chartered by the U.S. Navy in October 1917 and commissioned as USS Machigonne (SP-1043) in May 1918. She was employed carrying personnel and supplies in the Boston Harbor area during the rest of 1918 and into 1919. Sold (or, according to her data card, returned to her owner) in May 1919, the ship was employed commercially until 1941. She was renamed Hook Mountain in 1930.

This page features all the views we have of the steamer Machigonne, both before and during her World War I Navy service.
