USS North Pole (ID # 3791), 1919-1919.
Originally, and later, S.S. North Pole (American Refrigerated Cargo Ship, 1919).

North Pole, a 4092 gross ton (8835 tons displacement) refrigerated cargo ship, was completed at Baltimore, Maryland, in January 1919. During that month the Navy placed her in commission as USS North Pole (ID # 3791). In early February she sailed from New York for Quiberon, France, with a load of 3333 tons of frozen beef. Because of port congestion at Quiberon this meat was unloaded at St. Nazaire. The ship moved to Cardiff, Wales, in early March, loaded a cargo of Navy stores, and delivered it at New York in early April. USS North Pole was decommissioned at New York in April 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board, in whose custody she remained until scrapped in 1937.

This page features the only view we have concerning S.S. North Pole and USS North Pole
