    View looking north from the walk leading toward the drydock, circa 1896-1897. Structures seen in the distance include (from left-center to right): the flagstaff and hospital (former office building); pumping house; and wharf.
    In the middle distance are the pontoon bridge, with a whale boat under repair on its deck and the small yard tug Fucca alongside. At the bridge end is the barracks ship Nipsic. Partially visible beyond Nipsic is the USC&GS ship Hassler.
    Note bicycle leaning on a tree at left.

    At the Puget Sound Naval Station, Bremerton, Washington, 5 October 1897, while serving as a barracks ship.
    Off Nipsic's stern is the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey ship Hassler, a 350-ton steamer built at Camden, New Jersey, in 1872.
