Oskawa, a 6204 gross ton (11,570 tons displacement) refrigerated cargo ship, was completed at San Francisco, California, in December 1918. She was commissioned in the Navy on January 1919 as USS Oskawa (ID # 3797), loaded a cargo of general supplies and in late January sailed from San Francisco for New York. Upon arrival there the ship began preparations for a voyage to Europe but was instead put on the list for demobilization. USS Oskawa was decommissioned in late February 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board. The Government retained her until 1942, when she was transferred to the United Kingdom and became S.S. Empire Raven. The ship was renamed Southern Raven in 1948 and scrapped in 1952.
