USS O-3 (Submarine # 64, later SS-64), 1918-1946

USS O-3, a 521-ton O-1 class submarine built at Quincy, Massachusetts, was commissioned in mid-June 1918. In November of that year, following service along the U.S. Atlantic Seaboard, she was en route to the European combat zone when the First World War's fighting ceased. O-3 then returned to the East Coast and, for the next dozen years, operated in that area and in the waters near the Panama Canal. She was decommissioned in June 1931 and laid up at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Pennsylvania. Returned to commissioned service in February 1941, as part of the National defense enhancements brought on by renewed war in Europe, O-3 spent the rest of her career on training duty in the vicinity of Long Island Sound. In mid-September 1945, soon after the end of World War II, the old submarine was again decommissioned. USS O-3 was sold for scrapping in September 1946.

This page features all the views we have concerning USS O-3 (Submarine # 64, later SS-64).
