USS Rutoma (SP-78), 1917-1919.
Previously a civilian motor boat named Manchonak and Rutoma.

USS Rutoma, a 78-foot section patrol boat, was built in 1910 at Morris Heights, New York, as the civilian pleasure craft Manchonak. Later renamed Rutoma, she was acquired by the Navy in late April 1917. After commissioning, the boat was employed on patrol duties in Long Island Sound and at New York. On 21 February 1919 she was sunk in a collision but was soon raised. Rutoma was sold in September 1919. Her subsequent civilian career lasted at least into the 1930s.

This page features our only views of USS Rutoma (SP-78) and of the civilian motor boat Rutoma.
