The following photographs all appear to be related to an incident that took place circa 28 March 1919, in which USS Scranton suffered some kind of machinery or steering casualty that left her immobilized off the U.S. East Coast. USS El Sol (ID # 3511) stood by Scranton until another ship, apparently USS Penguin (Minesweeper # 33), arrived and towed her back to port. One of Scranton's boats capsized during the course of this incident, possibly resulting in loss of life among its crew.
