USS Sentinel (SP-180), 1917-1919

USS Sentinel, a 64-foot motor patrol craft, was built in the San Francisco Bay area of California in 1917, intended for civilian use. However, she was taken over by the Navy in August 1917 and placed in commission at that time. She served in San Francisco Bay during World War I, and for some months afterwards. Decommissioned in March 1919, Sentinel was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard in September of that year and renamed Tulare a few months later. In 1923 she was again renamed, becoming AB-14, and was kept in service at San Francisco until 1934.

This page features the only view we have of USS Sentinel (SP-180).
