USS Surf (SP-341), 1917-1919

USS Surf was built in 1911 at Quincy, Massachusetts, as a 252 gross ton commercial fishing trawler. Leased by the Navy in April 1917, she was placed in commission in May of that year. Surf served during the World War I era as a minesweeper in New England waters and was returned to her owner in early April 1919.

Tied up alongside another ship, circa 1917-1919.
Built in 1911, the trawler Surf was acquired by the Navy on 21 April 1917 and placed in commission on 8 May 1917. She was returned to her owner on 2 April 1919.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
