USS S-7, an 876-ton S-3 class submarine, was built by the Portsmouth Navy Yard, Kittery, Maine. Commissioned at the beginning of July 1920, during the following year she made a long voyage to the Philippines by way of the Panama Canal, California and Hawaii. The submarine operated in Far Eastern waters until October 1924, when she headed back to the U.S. West Coast. In February 1927 S-7 went south to the Panama Canal Zone, where she served for a few months before proceeding to New London, Connecticut. She was active off the U.S. northeastern coast, making occasional trips back to the Panama area, until October 1930, when she was sent to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Decommissioned there in early April 1931, USS S-7 was laid up in reserve. She was stricken from the Navy list in January 1937 and later broken up.
