USS S-8 (Submarine # 113, later SS-113), 1920-1937

USS S-8, an 876-ton S-3 class submarine built by the Portsmouth Navy Yard, Kittery, Maine, was commissioned at the beginning of October 1920. She spent most of 1921 on a trip from the U.S. East Coast to the Far East, via the Panama Canal, California and Hawaii. She stayed in the Western Pacific from December 1921 to October 1924, operating off China as well as in Philippine waters. S-8 returned to the West Coast at the end of 1924 and served in that area until February 1927, when she went to Coco Solo, Panama Canal Zone, for a few months before continuing on to New London, Connecticut. For the remainder of her active service she was based in New England, but made training voyages to Panama in 1928, 1929 and 1930. In April 1931 USS S-8 was placed out of commission and laid up at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Stricken from the Navy list in late January 1937, she was subsequently scrapped.

This page features all the views we have concerning USS S-8 (Submarine # 113, later SS-113).
