USS Vester (SP-686), 1917-1920.
Originally the civilian fishing vessel Vester (1876)

Vester, a 117 gross ton "Menhaden Fisherman" type fishing vessel, was built in 1876 at Boothbay, Maine. Despite her age, she was taken over by the Navy in late May 1917 and placed in commission early in the following month. During the remainder of World War I, and for several months after the November 1918 Armistice, she was assigned to minesweeping and patrol duties in the Delaware Bay area, though her elderly machinery kept her inactive during much of this time. USS Vester was decommissioned in mid-May 1919 and sold in January 1920.

This page features the only view we have concerning USS Vester (SP-686).
