USS Yavapai (APB-42), 1944-late 1950s.
Formerly named LST-676 and LST(M)-676

USS LST-676, a 2366-ton LST-511 class tank landing ship, was built at Ambridge, Pennsylvania. Commissioned in June 1944, she was sent to the Pacific soon thereafter. After arrival at Pearl Harbor in September 1944, she was converted to a self-propelled barracks ship and renamed LST(M)-676. In February -- April 1945, she took part in the Iwo Jima operation. Renamed Yavapai (APB-42) in May 1945, she subsequently supported U.S. amphibious forces at Okinawa. Following the Japanese surrender, she participated in occupation activities in Korea and China. Yavapai returned to the U.S. in the Spring of 1946 and was decommissioned the following December. She remained in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet until disposed of during the late 1950s.

This page features our only view of USS Yavapai.
