Alison Byrne Fields
Producer, My So-Called Community TV Documentary
Alison Byrne Fields is the Producer of -ISM (N.)'s National Broadcast and a co-creator of the project's WWW site. She is a devoted media literacy advocate and videomaker. Her video work includes the media literacy advocacy tape, Arm Them with Canons, Shotguns and Booms. Fields has taught media literacy workshops to elementary through high-school-age students and has co-taught video production workshops to adjudicated youth in Western Massachusetts. She has recently co-compiled a media literacy resource packet to accompany the ITVS series, "Signal to Noise", building on work she had done with the series' co-producer, Norman Cowie, with the Five College Summer Institute in Media Literacy at the University of Massachusetts. She is a graduate of Hampshire College with a B.A. in Education and Video Production. Following graduation, Fields spent six months in England conducting research on the status of media education in England with a specific focus on the role of the National Curriculum. She plans to return to England to study for an MA in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of London's Institute of Education, focusing her work on the effects of the US media overseas.
