Hi Michael , Perry , Laura,
I'm whats commonly known as a
cheapskate - thats why I set up how I did - I usually brew 300 to 400 gal -
I bought two immersion heaters of I think 1500 watt (maybe a little
bigger) - each will run off a normal power point - the elements plus leads
and fittings cost less than $50 each AUD - I already had a good thermometer
in the tank - turn both elements on to get initial warm up then turn one off
to maintain temperature - I find one element is about right to keep the tank
at even temp in cold weather - easy really BUT you can get these same type
immersion element heaters with a thermostat built in to the handle (and
higher capacity) for about $150 AUD (solar heat is the way to go if you can
make it work - but there are hygiene problems - unless you ONLY heat the
clean water prior to brewing)
Cheers all
Lloyd Charles
