Very little oxygen is actually dissolved from the air bubbles. Most
exchange takes place at the top where the air/water interface is.
This is done from movement of the water at the top and that's where
most of the dissolved oxygen is.
When a fish in a poorly aerated tank is gasping for air, why do you
think it goes to the top.
