RE: [compost_tea] Snapshot - a pre-emergent herbicide

Sorry I copied the precious post from an advertisement for Snapshot "Snaps=
hot bonds tightly with soil particles and is low in water solubility, so it=
won't move out of the application zone."

http://www.clemson.edu/hort/sctop/asec/asec-03.htm

Results indicate that isoxaben from Snapshot TG was lost from the nursery s=
ite of application in runoff water. These losses are higher than those prev=
iously reported for other herbicides, possibly due to differences in water =
solubility, adsorption to carrier particles, sediments, etc., and stability=
 in the environment.

Just another example of creative advertising.

Active ingredient
Snapshot contains the active ingredients isoxaben and trifluralin. Isoxaben=
is found in Gallery* specialty herbicide, and trifluralin is a component o=
f Team* Pro specialty herbicide. Snapshot bonds tightly with soil particles=
and is low in water solubility, so it won't move out of the application zo=
ne.

Hazard: Based on results from animal studies isoxzben causes genetic damage=
and birth defects. There are data that support the finding that isoxaben =
has potential to have cancer causing effects on animals.

gy/BPA/Environment/PPA/ROWMaintenance/isoxaben.pdf
Residual Soil Activity: Trifluralin is active in the soil. Germination of c=
rops may be impacted for up to 1½ years after soil treatment, especially =
in arid conditions. It is not usually absorbed from the soil by plants.

Sounds like it will kill the microorganisms that are around.

Another great chemical from DOW chemical corp. (I hope every understands th=
e sarcasm).

What is the active ingredient in this herbicide. Different herbicides have=
different names in different parts of the world.
