Re: [compost_tea] Re: CT effective in Desert areas?
Worm castings are just a more 'worm-refined' material than vermi-compost. C=
astings are what actually come out of the back end of the worm.
Vermi-compost, according to The Worm Book, by Loren Nancarrow and Janet Hog=
an Taylor, is "a mixture of castings and bacterially composted bedding and =
food".
In other words, the worms are making the castings, but there are also other=
microbial activities taking place that degrade the material as well.
Both are good, but castings are the best. And remember, what goes in is wha=
t comes out. Quality worm castings begin with quality ingredients in the wo=
rm bed. It is not a given that all worm castings are rich in their nutritio=
nal content for the plant or their microbial quality for the soil.

Tom,
Do you mean vermicompost or vermicastings....there is a difference, as I =
am sure you know, but others may not....
Cheers,
Jeff
