Here's a very interesting article at Science News Daily today on how
agriculture and urbanization are eliminating some soil types (aka "soil
series") in the U.S. and how important they are to specific plant types. The
article notes that Streptomycin came from a soil scientist studying why
diseased bodies didn't contaminate the soil. It turned out to be the first
effective treatment against tuberculosis.
This article relates to compost tea as the article discusses how organic
matter and microbial life in the soil can be site specific for certain plant
species.
