Dennis,

This is from a mushroom grower's site -- grains are described as
substrates -- the dictionary says that means "Substrate -- A general term in
reference to the surface on or within which organisms live". So I assume
that when grains are used as media for growing mushrooms (the organisms),
they are sterilized.
I'm going to have to count on the mushroom cognoscenti in the group to say
if that's right or not.
