Like I said, Dennis, The average of compost is cleanex thin but compost falls in rather large particles scattered to that average thinness. So the lumps can survive to melt into the soil with the next water application - rain and cloudy weather they hope. Then under good conditions the microbes multiply and migrate. It is this multiplication and migration that covers the field and does the work.

Compost tea works much the same way. A little on, if the soil or foliage is receptive, if the first to land find the climate and friendly conditions, food but ( no poisons ) these pilgrims become significant in the soil food web.

Probably 99.999% of the soil food web is already there in the form of nutrients, minerals, water, air and we hope protozoa , worms, moles, and lots of old plant fiber in the process of being eaten by the friendly natives of that land. Hozat for pure blather? Wuz I there? Bob

the "buggies" protection from the elements while "digging in" to
their new home. The environment would definitely affect them, perhaps
adversely, with only 0.026 inches of compost to "thrive" in. Dennis

words, not much.
