[compost_tea] Re: Re: storing worm castings

I join Doc in welcoming Kelly! My new year is already happy with her voice
here. I've been paying close attention to worm stuff for almost ten years,
and she is one of very few people worldwide who know worms as well. She is
also a great teacher of master composters and vermicomposters, too, so if
you get a chance to hear her speak, don't miss it.

Been doing large scale vermicomposting for some years, too, and seems to me
everybody who's spoken up is right, though not quite clear (i.e.,
Ray...wha?:). Kelly and Doc's recommends today may be best. Steve's
suggestion of using them to bring up wormbeds is great, too. Most all
castings will do what he suggests at any point -- up to 40 years
scientifically recorded, eh? Using vermicompost may be a better way to
bring up your own worms than buying them, actually. Winter in north
hemisphere is not the best time to start, but all you should have to do is
lay in some steady feedstock, pay attention and be patient... if it's gonna
work they'll make it work.

Maximum value of vermicompost is in a wet, fresh condition, I think, so
anything past a couple months after harvest won't be maximizing, but they
last for years stored appropriately, as Kelly and Doc suggest. I have some
stuff that's almost ten years old I'm gonna try now...:-) Does my faith
they will work beneficially no matter what influence the outcome?

Happy New Year!
