Paulette hit an important aspect of what you have to think about when trying to balance nutrients. You have to pay attention to all the nutrients. You will pay the consequences if you focus on just part of the whole. Bonemeal is high in Ca, but also has a serious PO4 load. Do you really need BOTH? Or are are you contributing to the problem of polluted water instead of cleaning it up, as biolgical farmers should?

No number is right, unless all numbers are right. There is no one factor that can be used to grow plants, you have to be aware of all factors. Optimize everything that you can. Be aware that all chemicals come with contaminants.

So, if not bloodmeal, what is the best, balanced nutrient you can use? AEROBIC compost. It's made from plant material, so guess what? Properly made compost has the nutrients in balance.....

But properly made, ok? Nothing that is putrefying.....
