Helpful reply Bob.. eh hem. ;)

Rob:
I'd suggest taking a look at the archives of the list for an answer to this
question. But they're not that easy to work with. Here's the link in case
your adventurous: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/compost_tea/messages

Chris Reid of this list has composed a couple files of the many dialogs on
the list - very helpful - look for files listed under her name here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/compost_tea/files/

"Compost Tea Brewing Manual" by Dr. Elaine Ingham
http://www.soilfoodweb.com/sfi_html/06_books_cds/index.html

You can also read the faq on the International Compost Tea Council website:
http://www.intlctc.org/faq1.htm

My 2c worth, which are probably worth half that, but from what I've read an=
d
played with .... it does matter which method you use. The primary
difference is that the bucket method is not aerobic (until you stir it,
which doesn't add a whole lot of O2 anyway - and then the oxygen loving
microbes eat up that O2 quickly causing the brew to go anaerobic again -the
anaerobic bacteria gain control). Your ANaerobic teas (No O2) let the
anaerobic bacteria take over - not good for plants, not good for people. =

Using aerobic methods allows you to add a food source to grow and breed you=
r
good, aerobic bacteria and fungi. Great for plants and not a problem for
us, our kids or our pets.

IN contrast, using the bucket method, particularly if you add food, you wil=
l
be growing and breeding the bad guys found in your compost - the anaerobic
sorts. Not good.

Also, check out the various brewer mfg's websites to see what they have to
say too. Some sites give explanations. Search for "Compost Tea" and
"Brewer" on google. You'll have to wade through the marketing, but as Dr
Ingham mentions in a lot of her messages - look for their test results -
they should have them posted.

Ya have lots to catch up on... take some time to dig through the archives o=
f
this list - not an easy task, but worth it to learn more. Just lurking for
a while, you'll get to 'hear' some great conversations on all this stuff.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Wahll...Rob, It depends.

Hello All,

What is the correct way to make compost tea? I have heard from
several places to simply mix compost and water in a bucket, and
after four days (stirring once every day), it would be good finished
compost tea. I have also heard of much more complicated methods,
where you have to have a fish tank pump and pump air through the
mixture of compost and water, and molasses. I have heard of other
ways of doing it too, and was just wondering if it matters how you
do it.

Thanks!

Rob

Wahll...Rob, It depends. Do you want to experiment with a few potted
plants? Use your bucket. whatever happens won't matter.

Do you have a few K acres in a high value crop? Half a million bucks, years
of your life, bet on the yield? Different situations call for different
equipment, different way of thinking, different know how. different
dedication to what you do, different way to make and apply ACT. It MATTERS.
