Hi Lloyd,

I honestly don't know. I just followed the link in Kirk's post to read
the report that some people are apparently upset by. And wanted to point
out some reasons why I didn't think that it was so bad, and also how I
would go about dealing with it.

What I can comment on is what I think *should* happen.

Since the email address that Kirk gave was of the National Organics
Standards Board, it seems that they are the group running this thing,
and that their decision making ability is related only to organic
certification. I haven't actually read about any of the actions
surrounding this report.

I do think that organic farmers should be held to a higher standard,
because their customers are more concerned about health issues. Organic
produce is also restricted from some procedures that might reduce pathogens.

but....

Since it is apparently a food safety issue, it should apply to all
commercial agriculture. But I believe that decision would be up to
someone other than the NOSB.

The NOSB should not avoid dealing with this issue just because they do
not have the authority to apply the rule to non-organic farms.

For what it is worth, I will be applying ACT to my garden within 120
days of harvest. But that is my decision on my own food, and I have a
healthy immune system.
