When the questions of tilling vs no-tilling comes up I
assume that the question is no-tilling vs. expensive
equipment, expensive fertilizer, expensive herbicides,
expensive pesticides. What is the cost of no-tilling
vs tilling. A corn farmer friend of mine was bemoaning
the cost of production vs the price he received for
the corn. As he put it "they will only give me X
dollars for my corn". I pointed out that if his
marketing relied on "they will only give me" then he
was in trouble. That's another story.

Back to cost difference. What is the break even point
and how precariously perched is the farmer with the
big equipment payments and input cost to crop failure.
So, you have insurance, that's just another expense..
