Hi everyone, Bob here. Thanks for an outstanding forum. I am 61 and
have read Acres USA since 1977. I made compost tea last year in
Memphis and am now doing it in Tucson Az. I am using my own
vermicompost presently and have 3 thermocompost piles going in 3
locations. Materials include sheep manure/bedding, straw and organic
vegetable prunings from Aqua Vita, a local healthfood store. They
are fine folks. I joined the Tucson Organic Gardeners Club and have
5 4x20 beds dug as of two weeks ago at their community site. They
had no therocompost going but they do now. Size is 4x4x4 feet and I
am hitting 145 degrees as of two days ago. I am turning this compost
every 3 days and am shooting for 3 weeks to finish. My intention is
to start an organic landscape and garden service here in Tucson and
want to make specialty compost and tea from desert plants. I have
Dr. Elaine's brewing manual and just about have it memorized. My tea
is per her instructions. (blackstrap, kelp and fish emulsion -
hydroysate to follow) My brewer is 5 gal homemade with two aquarium
pumps. (80 gal capacity with 3 stones and one in the tea bag)
Obviously I need to have the compost and tea evaluated by Soilfoodweb
and will as finances allow. I have used this tea on 3 growing beds
at my Daughter's home and we have been eating OUTSTANDING lettuce and
spinach for the last 3 months. Flower beds and ornamentals are doing
just fine. Nothing has died through the winter and carrots, onions,
beets and garlic have started growing well. I have a 5 cu ft/min air
pump coming and am thinking about a 9" round diffuser. I am
interested in any non-propretary designs for brewers. I want to brew
up 15-25 gal batches. I need a microscope. I am going to make it
happen in Tucson. The organic folks here need help. They know ABOUT
compost and tea but are not presently DOING it. Obviously this needs
to change. Apologize for the long post and thanks once again for the
fine site. It is taking quite some time to go through all the
historical data but no problem. Best regards to all, Bob.
