It depends on what biology is in the compost. Bacterial-dominated aerobic
compost, you tend to get pH raised above 7.
 
Fungal-dominated aerobic compost, buffers pH between 5.5 and 7.
 
Anaerobic compost drops pH, sometimes to very low pH.
 
So, aerobic compost usually gives you pH moved into the neutral range.
 
Stinky compost (not really compost then, huh?), can be really bad news.
