Subject: The baby is born!

It took 9 month to develop and launch the Organic Agriculture website but we
made it!

Special thanks go to the WAICENT group for their spontaneous collaboration
and especially to Virginie Viollier, THE skillful architect of the website.
Frehiwot Fisseha is the author of the bibliographical search programme and
thanks to her intelligent efforts, there will be no need to update the
on-line search option. The ADGs of AG, ES and SD kindly provided the
necessary funds for the multilingual translations.

This website is therefore the fruit of collective support despite the fact
that the work and funds it entailed were not planned in advance. I hope that
you will all have the opportunity to note that this effort was worthwhile.

The Website was released last week, on the occasion of the Regional
Conference for Europe in Porto. Delegates at the Conference had a chance to
surf the site and all 70 hard copies of the site made available at the
WAICENT stand have been taken away by participants. The fact that delegates
did not ask for assistance in searching the site is a sign that the website
is user-friendly.

In the future, users contacts with FAO will arrive to a specific mailbox
(organicag) that can be accessed by all members of the Inter-Departmental
Working Group on Organic Agriculture. In this way, the website becomes an
inter-departmental "property". The corporate work of technical divisions on
organic agriculture will be posted on this page. Departmental webpages
having features on organic agriculture could link to this corporate website
(and vice versa).

The website is accessible through the main FAO Home Page or directly at
http://www.fao.org/organicag <http://www.fao.org/organicag>

Cheers,

Nadia
