Birded the first three daylight hours along/near paved roads at Ft. Fisher on
Sunday (6 October). A relatively good movement of birds was observed.
Highlights included
dickcissel - 2,
peregrine - 2,
merlin - 4,
loggerhead shrike - 5,
Baltimore orioles, ruby-crowned kinglets, painted buntings,
several hundred of each of the following species: tree swallows, bobolinks,
palm warblers, flickers, and great-blue herons.
The herons were all flying very high and south in groups of 20-50.
