A 2nd winter MEW GULL was seen and studied at rest and in flight at Lockwood

Sought -after migrants on Roanoke Island (NC) recently include a CONNECTICUT
WARBLER and CLAY-COLORED SPARROW on 9-24, LARK SPARROW and PHILADELPHIA
VIREO on 9-25, and a WARBLING VIREO on 9-26. The Elizabethan Gardens on
Roanoke Island are an excellent place to look for migrants.

A juvenile AM. GOLDEN PLOVER was present on the Fort Fisher Spit 9-25. Seven
AMERICAN AVOCETS were seen also. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed to drive
out onto this interesting area. Good woodland birding in the area can be

The trails around the NC Aquarium can also be very productive.

BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS have been reliable at the Orangeburg, SC sod farms
on US 301 just west of I-26. Always check in at the office when attempting to
bird such facilities.

A 3rd year LESSER-BLACK BACKED GULL was at Atlantic Beach, NC behind the
Ramada Inn on 9-21.

A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD has been coming to a feeder in York, SC. Call Bill
Hilton at 803-684-5852 to see if it is still present.

Thanks this week to Jeff Lewis, Steve Stiffler, Bruce Smithson, Greg Massey,
