Folks,
This morning at about 9:30 AM, while driving out Rt. #191, I saw a
flock of about 200 Canada Geese overhead. This is the first decent number
of Geese I have seen since Tuesday, when I had the Greater White-fronted
Goose in with a large flock of Canada Geese. After that, the Canada's
disappeared for the rest of the week. My theory is that the White-fronted
Goose led them astray. Other theories are, that I had too many Gin &
Tonics. Anyway, the geese landed in the water treatment pond along Rt.#191.
I stopped to scan the flock for the White-fronted Goose when in dropped 3
female CANVASBACKS. Like the White-fronted Goose, this pond is not the place
one would expect to find either. Canvasbacks are always a good find in the
mountains of Western North Carolina.
Best regards,
Wayne
