Subject: Black-headed Gull
Tom Krakauer, tkrakauer@mindspring.com, is on the Outer Banks for the weekend
and is scheduled to go to Cape Point with me on Nov. 30. On his way here he
stopped at Mattamuskeet, saw a Black-headed Gull, called from Nags Head and
asked me to post his sighting:
A Black-headed Gull was found on Nov. 27 at Mattamuskeet NWR on the north end
of the causeway, Route 94. Seen with Bonaparte's Gulls, it was a first
winter bird with orange bill, black spot behind the eye, pale legs, and black
terminal tail band. Compared with the Bonaparte's Gulls, it was larger and
heavier-looking.
