January 8, 2003
53 species were seen and/or heard on a cold and windy day. The most
interesting were; 1 Anhinga, 8 White Ibis, 2 Wood Storks, 2 adult Bald
Eagles ( female appears to be incubating ), 1 Red-shouldered Hawk, 1
Red-tailed Hawk, 1 Marsh Wren, 40 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 8 Golden-crowned
Kinglets, 12 Eastern Bluebirds, 3 Hermit Thrushes, 1 White-eyed Vireo, 1
Nashville Warbler, 5 Pine Warblers ( males have started to sing ), and 2
Palm Warblers. The Nashville Warbler was seen for about 30 seconds and
appeared to be a male in bright plumage. Through 10x binoculars, I saw a
gray head with white eye ring contrasting sharply with an olive back and
yellow below from the bill to the tail except for a little white by the
legs.
