Hello fellow birders,
I checked out the Sparta Bog in Alleghany county again this p.m.. The
Woodcocks were very active in spite of the snow. Peenting and display
flights were continuous for the period that I was there with up to three
birds doing aerial displays at once and several peenting on the ground.
Sparta Bog is wetlands mitigation property owned by DOT located about two
miles south of Sparta, NC. (Its not a true bog, elevation is about 2800
feet).
