Hi Carolinabirders,
Today, the Litchfield-Pawleys Island CBC took place. This count includes
Huntington Beach S.P., Brookgreen Gardens, and Samworth W.M.A. as well as
many other birdy areas. As I was putting on my foul weather gear this
morning I was not at all confident that 150 would be reached.
The L-PI count is usually blessed with favorable birding weather. Today
was not prime with some light rain early and increasing winds in the
afternoon, but with a good number of birders in the field we had a very
respectable 155 preliminary species count. The following "any other birds"
were reported at the roundup: Eurasian Collared Dove,(two parties)Blue
Grosbeak, (two parties) White-crowned Sparrow, Le Conte's Sparrow, Lesser
Black-backed Gull, and an Archilochus Hummer. I am confident these birds
will be adequately documented.
As usual a few iffy birds were missed but one party and two feeder
watchers have not yet reported their results. Gannet and Loon numbers as
well as some sparrows were off the wall. Tonya Spires (co-compiler) and I
are gratified by the effort and results.
