Yellow Rails in SC

Carolinabirders,

On 29 December 2000, I flushed THREE! Yellow Rails from some
fields at Samworth WMA. I also had 6 LeConte's Sparrows, a
Grasshopper Sparrow, a few White-crowned Sparrows, hundreds of
Savannahs, Vespers, Songs and Fields, including a partial albino
Savannah. It was mostly white but had facial markings.

Chris Hill had discovered the sparrows the day before while doing
the
Litchfield/Pawley's Island CBC. This is a great area. This area was
logged and replanted in pines, and covered with broom sedge and
other
grasses. It is not easy walking and can be very wet in some places.

Directions to Samworth: Head north out of Georgetown on US Hwy
701, cross the Black River and turn right, onto SC 4, at the
crossroads immediately after the river. Follow this road as it curves
sharply to the left and turn right onto a dirt road with the sign for
Samworth WMA. It is about 5.6 miles from where you turned off of
US
Hwy 701. The fields are on both sides of the dirt road. I had all the
birds mentioned above on both sides of the road.

Good Birding,

Lex Glover
Lugoff, SC
