Dear Tanager lovers,
I didn't study your field notes carefully, but I can tell you that Western
Tanager
has been reported in the Carolinas, especially in the Winter. I saw a bright
male
in Sumter,SC about 12 years ago. They show up almost every year somewhere.
The bill size and shape alone should separate the tanager from any icterid
such as an Oriole. Baltimore Oriole is fairly common in the Winter, I believe
Orchard would only be expected in Spring and Summer.
