On 01/05/01, I joined a small group of birders from GA and MI for a brief
trek to the frigid Chippewa County area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula to look
for the specialities sometimes found there in winter.
Our rewards from 6 hours of intensive field time exceeded our most optimistic
hopes.Although our species count (30) was not high, the quality was. Those
worthy of mention are as follows:
Rough-legged Hawk
Ruffed Grouse
Sharp-tailed Grouse
Snowy Owl
Northern Hawk Owl
Great Gray Owl Bohemian Waxwing
Northern Shrike
Snow Bunting
Our completely unexpected piece de resistance was a lengthy close-up look at
a Gyrfalcon.
I would be pleased to answer any questions on this trip.
